I must say that there have only been a handful of books that have kept me up until five in the morning, and The Knife of Never Letting Go was definately one of tehm. It was fantastically writtenand extremely intense. The only criticism I could possibly give your book is that it was too good. It's not easy going to school on no sleep! I cannot wait for the next book in the Chaos Wlking series.
Keep up the good work!
Hi Patrick, I think you are a great writer! I read lots of adventure/horror/thriller/sci-fi books with a lot of sad events but the first chaos walking book was the first ever book that made me stop and think... [spoilers regretfully removed by Patrick, but it's a great comment!] ....anyways great writing Pat keep it up!
the 'knife of never letting go' was just brill..kept making me hold my breath which isn't such a good idea when you've had a few pink gins to drink. Read some of it to my 7yr old son at bedtime (before the gin) who was so fixated that he drew the spackle (which looks a little like that giant robot behind you!)
take care
Hi!
KONLG is awesome! I read it in 3 days, and I`m only 11.
When`s the next book out?
Bye!
Hi Patrick!
I am waiting with anticipation for the next installment to the knife of never letting go. I was gripped and finished it in two days, I tried not to but just one more chapter, one more chapter....
Can you give us an incling as to when the next one might be coming, and what it might be called? Well done on such an amazing book, it truly had me from start to finish. Keep up the good work, I am defintely a fan!
If I was a bloke, my Noise would be shouting "WHEN'S THE NEXT ONE OUT? WHEN'S THE NEXT ONE OUT? WHERE'S MY BEER? WHEN'S THE NEXT ONE OUT?"
I'm not a bloke. I am silent. But still wondering.
Also, your book drew blood today! Scrabbling around in my bag, and sliced my hand along the corner of the cover. Books usually just leave scars on the inside, but KONLG obviously wasn't satisfied with that...
Loved it, and can't wait for the next volume. I'll just have to entertain myself with Hennington and Topics for now.
I did email you before I saw this page, so I shall reiterate in public.
WOW - The Knife of Never Letting Go is fantastic. A real page-turner - moving, exciting, original. Brilliant.
I can't wait for the next instalment.
Heartfelt congratulations on winning the Guardian's Children's Fiction Prize. Have requested KONLG from the library - and am truly looking forward to reading it for me and hopefully also recommending it to my nephews/nieces. Inspirational - thanks -jft.
oh my...
heart still beating,
it is the only noise I can hear.
spent all day finding quiet places
out of the rain devouring the knife of never letting go.
It is a book you can taste.
Thank you.
Just finished The Knife of Never Letting Go (congratulations on the Guardian award, by the way) and have to say that I loved it. Gripping and original and very, very more-ish. When can we expect the next instalment?
Well done on winning the Guardian Award!
Many many deserved congratulations on winning the Guardian Award! Always great to see quality fiction recognised. Enjoy!!
Congratulations on winning the Guardian Chlidren's Fiction Prize! Having reviewed your book to win the place to be there at the party I was very pleased you won. It was a great book and it was very interesting speaking to you.
Hi Patrick,
I recently complete the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer and was a little sad that it was over and I had nothing new to read, so I popped off to my local bookstore and saw your beautifully designed book. I am a designer so it was the unique and tactile cover that made me pick up the book and buy it. Once I had read the first page later that day I was hooked, I even forgot to eat my dinner! I continued to read the book until I fell asleep later that night. What an enchanting story supported by wonderfully refreshing and creative typography that made the visual imagery jump around in my head. The only negative thing I can say about the book was that the ending came to fast. I just wanted to keep reading and reading it. I loved the cliffhanger ending and cannot wait for the next part. Please don’t keep us waiting to long!
Hi Patrick
I've just finished reading The Knife of Never Letting Go and I had to tell you that it completely blew me away. I know it's aimed at youngsters but in my head I'm not 60 but more like 16 - honest! I can't wait for the next volume to be published so I'm really hoping you're not intending to do a JK Rowling and keep us hanging on and on in desperate suspension. I listen to a lot of books on audio (after I've read them on paper!) and find it brings another dimension to a story. Is there any chance of this book being published on CD?
Best wishes

I've just finished reading 'The Knife of Never Letting Go', which I picked up not knowing it was for 'young adults', but am now at least glad to know that 30 years old is still young for adults. So bravo for making me feel particularly youthful today. As for the book, it was marvellous. A joy from playful start to emotional end. However, I must now go and commit horrendous crimes* to steal a copy of your finished second book in the series and then kidnap you and force you to write the third one really really quickly.
*all threats are merely fictitious... but 'Want book now, Todd!'
Hey Patrick!
It's Holz here and to be honest I'm a complete Book Nerd. Ask all my friends and they'll say that I came into school with a new book everyday. *blushs* Anyway, I really loved your book 'The Knife Of Never Letting Go.' and was wondering when then next one is coming out? I nearly cried ... In the middle of my Gym lesson, behind the benches :P
Keep Running and Writing!

Hello again Patrick,
Just found your book in Sydney, but I can't seem to find in in Cairns. I'm glad to hear about the second book, I like the title. Looking forward to it already. Quite a good interview on the Buzz that I saw as well. A movie version would be truly impressive, and in my opinion, much better than any 'teen' fantasy or sci fi movies coming out of Hollywood these past few years. Then again, I think you book is much better written.
Farewell for now,
Stephan (SteveD)
I don't see why The Knife of Letting Go is dubbed as a work of "Teenage Fiction". It's truly one of the best books I've ever read and I'm no teenager. Finishing a book in under 48 hours is something I've never done before either. You're a brilliant writer and I can't wait for the second installment.
Hi
I am 13 and i read the Knife of Never Letting Go in about a day and a half. The only thing that upset me about it was when i saw on the cover: 'Chaos Walking: Book 1'. Then i knew i'd be waiting (once again) for sequels of amazing books.
Thank you so much, and when is the sequel coming out??
Hello Patrick
Like your site its great
I'm 12 yrs old, and just started your book, could not wait till my hol really wanted to take it with me, still might to read again hee!
I'm already looking forward to book two.
Thanks for writing it.

I am a school librarian and I will be recommending The Knife of Never Letting Go to anyone who will listen when I get back to school in September. It was original and gripping. Looking forward to the next installment.
Hello,
I bought your book after hearing you speak at the Brighton festival (you signed my book with a 'sorry' for making a mistake writing the date). Anyway, I thought the book amazing. I have been reading for the last 3 days ( I have 3 young children so no matter how great I will never finish a book in a day!) and having dispatched my kids off to my mum's for an evening out, ran a lovely hot bath, procured a yummy glass of cava from my husband and set down to read. I knew I should leave the last bit until tomorrow as I was already late in readying myself but I could not put it down. NEVER has bath water felt so cold as when I read the words 'End of Part 1'. I am so frustrated! Please, please, please tell me when the next book is coming out?
My son Stephan bought your book while touring Dublin, and as you know, I wrote a blog review about it for our local afternoon newspaper, the Tucson Citizen in Arizona:
http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/blogs/index.php?blog=24
Loved your book, can't wait for the sequel, but please don't let Viola die! Your book isn't even for sale yet in the US till September.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Classen, Esq.

As a 47-year-old teenager, I've just read The Knife of Never Letting Go and agree with previous comments about this being the most exciting read since the Pullman trilogy, and I've been enthusing about it all around Dublin and elsewhere since, and pushing innocent book-browsing strangers to its covers. It can't but fail to become a classic, and I'll be first in the queue for Part 2 (when is it due?). Best of luck and success with it!
Hello giant robot in Tokyo and hello Patrick. I finished reading your book "The Knife of Never Letting Go" only just this morning and frankly it was the best book I have ever read. At the end of every chapter I needed more and now on finishing the book I feel as though my brain has exploded from being thoroughly outwitted. And now I bite my lip and ask, when is the next book coming out, hoping it's soon because I don't want Todd to be stuck at the end of a book when he could be at the beginning of a new one.
Emma
Hi Patrick,
I work part-time at an Angus and Robertson bookstore in Melbourne, Australia. Last week I noticed we received 10 copies of your book plus a free reading copy. So I took it, before anyone else could - and read it in one sitting. Thankyou so much for making 'The Knife' interesting from the beginning as I usually only read the first 2 pages of any reading-copies and leave the rest till I have more time. Anyhoo, I adored Todd, Manchee (tear) and Viola and have been feverishly reccommending it to customers.
Thanks again, N@
Hello Patrick,
I just happened to pick up your book in a Dublin bookstore while on vacation there, (the bookstore had promoted it) and read it all the way through on the airplane back to the 110 degree weather where I live. I am truly impressed, this book was one of the best written books I've read in a long, long time, though I was rather frustrated at some parts. I'll be planning a trip to the British Isles again, it seems, for your second book. Nice picture of the robot with you from "Castle in the Sky". Miyazaki really was an artist.
Farewell, Steven
Hi Patrick!
I've just written an email but I thought Id write a comment as well! I'm 13 years old and my names Amy I'm from Newcastle England and have just came back from a brilliant holiday, I had bought your books two weeks before going and saved it until I went, it was hard to wait but I managed! I loved your book! So much that I barely got a tan because I could not read it properly unless I was in the shade. I have lent the book to my friend Hannah as she saw how happy I was when I was reading it and got jealous (TeeHee) she is enjoying it immensely! I totally agree with the other comments left on this page it was totally breathtaking and phenomenal, they are the best words I can think of to describe it! Hope to be reading book two soon!
Kind regards Amy J
Ps I don't talk as posh (in my opinion) as I am writing lol (sorry but I just had to write lol, lol.), well some posh bits anyway.
Hi Patrick,
Have just finished reading "The Knife of Never Letting go" and I am still trying to catch my breath. It is an amazing read. I really really loved it and can't wait for book 2. Haven't really felt like that since reading Pullman's "Northern Lights." This is the best thing I have read in a long time! I have a feeling this is gonna be big!
Thank you for writing it.
A new fan,
Kieran
My son has devoured your book - he's 13. He's talked to his school librarian about it but she hasn't heard of it - yet!! Thank you for helping him to continue his love affair with books.
Hey there,
I have literally *just* finished 'The Knife of Letting Go,' and am currently working on developing a unit plan for it to convince my head of department that we should be using it in classrooms. It was brilliant. However, it may be the only book that made me cover my eyes, in the hope that, if I didn't look, the next page and half wouldn't happen....even though, I knew it was inevitable. I then cried my way through the next page, chucked the book down and sulked for several hours before picking it up again. And I bet, it isn't at the part you imagine it's at. Heartbreaking, Patrick. Heartbreaking. But brilliantly, brilliantly written.
We went on our honeymoon in Quintana Roo (Cancun), but it's an odd name for a little girl.
I'm waving from New Zealand , dear friend .
Thrilled to see your publications online and your future looking so deservingly full.
Full with the knowledge that I know you cherish, from the past to the present and the road to happy destiny.
I will always be grateful to have you in my life as friend and confidant.
Lots of love always .

Hello Patrick,
Wow who knew I have a famous cousin?! It was great seeing Uncle Jim and Joe. I will definately use my Amazon credit and buy one of your books. Cheers from Sheffield.

Oh my Dearest Patrick, it is surreal to visit your website. After knowing you all of these years, I still find myself laughing (with the occasional snort) whenever I read the cynical and complex humor that is competely and totally you. I love you dearly. O Pah! ~vicki

Hugh Laurie, OBE, does a pretty good job of English into American on the American television show, HOUSE. So, perhaps it requires over 25 years of acting experience, musical talent, authorship, a history of depression and a TEEN CHOICE award to successfully grasp the nuances of a proper American accent. He also lives in an apartment in West Hollywood while filming. You don't think he's in your old flat do you Patrick?
In response to your latest entry, have you heard of Q and not U?
They're no longer at it, but they did good stuff!
What a great site. But which one is you and which one's the robot?
Yours is the first blog RSS feed I have ever subscribed to! Yes, I'm that computer literate, but enough about me...
What a lovely site! It is a great comfort for me to know someone famous, and so labour-saving that I don't have to do anything hard work like e-mailing you to feel that I am keeping up to date with your news... Your friend, Helen.
Dear Patrick,
Sorry to keep littering your site with bugs.
Here's to swatting!

Hi Patrick!
Just to follow what everyone has been saying the Knife of Never Letting Go is a very good book worth any award. But lots have people have been asking "What's happening in the next one" Now in my point of view if it's a trilogy this will be the one where... [I had to leave off the rest because of spoilers, but he makes some very good guesses, one of which is exactly right (I'm not saying which, though) -- Patrick]
